Frequently Asked Questions

To make everything easier

General

The subject matter of the projects we offer is as varied as our clients and the competencies of our juniors so nearly every industry and business function is represented. Our projects’ format also has a wide range, from full-time on-site work in Italy and abroad, to remote work, project lengths are also flexible from as little as two weeks to as much as six months.

Full projects. Firms pay CoStaff a fee based on juniors’ monthly salaries whenever they staff a junior on one of their projects.

Project tasks. Firms pay CoStaff a service fee to have their task handled by us through juniors like you.

CoStaff does not earn any money through any of the services offered to juniors, so CoStaff is completely free for you.

CoStaff is able to guarantee that its juniors have much higher salaries than at internships because the work which they do through CoStaff is not intern work. By matching you with specific projects in which you can add as much value as junior professionals we can ensure that you receive comparable salaries.

Getting staffed

Our sophisticated algorithms suggest the best candidates to firms by comparing projects’ core requirements with your preferences, and availability. The firms then use our insights of your competencies and past experiences to select the candidate(s) they are most interested in. To get even better at connecting you with the right projects, we are continually using the data generated through past staffings and client searches to improve our algorithms through machine learning.

We will inform you about projects that are suitable for you as soon as we have them in the database, so it only depends on the clients’ timelines. In some cases they need support on a project within the next few days, however in most cases it will be a couple of weeks or months before the beginning of a project.

Of course! While we only suggest projects that fit your profile, you always have the final choice about accepting or declining a project. By specifying your preferences and availability during the sign-up process, you can ensure that the projects we present to you fit your general profile.

Absolutely not. We only show firms anonymized profiles. Your contact information will only be released after your interest/availability for the project is validated by you. This ensures that only clients that are really interested in staffing you, will know your contact details, while you are always in control regarding which partner to share your profile with when.

Your salary is determined by CoStaff before the start of a project. It is based on your past experience and the type of project at hand, so that it is roughly equivalent to what a professional junior would earn.

Our partners trust our evaluation so they are sure that you have all the competencies necessary to help them reach their goals when they select you from our database. Thus the possible short personal fit interviews that remain merely ensure that you click with the company culture.

Being staffed

Full projects. Your final contract and its terms (excluding your salary which is guaranteed by us) is negotiated between the firm and you. So it can be either an internship contract or a normal employee contract for the duration of the project. Internship contracts are the most common format because of their tax advantages.

Project tasks. Your final contract and its terms will be between you and CoStaff. For short tasks it will be a simple contract (e.g. co.co.co. if you are based in Italy). Depending on the jurisdiction you are based in we’ll make sure that we offer you the best and frictionless solution. Afterall we can count on our legal partner PWC.

Delivering top work requires having access to suitable travel and housing options, so we take care of both together with our client partner before you get staffed on a project. Neither your salary nor your chances of being staffed are affected.

You will be regarded as a full junior employee in the projects you are staffed on, so the organization will be the same as is normally the case for a junior in the firm. While there are differences between different firms you can expect to be guided by the firm’s seniors to handle critical work for your client in the most effective manner possible.

After you sign-up and take our remote assessment you will be a full member of our junior talent database! Firms are then able to select your anonymized profile for their projects and project tasks. Once you confirm your interest, we will release your contact information to the firm. Afterwards, the firm will contact you to finalize contractual arrangements. If everything fits you’ll be staffed right away!

Yes! Let us be the judges of your fit to projects, you may be further along than you think 😉 Besides, even if you don’t yet have the necessary experience for full consultancy projects we also have entry level project tasks that are the perfect way to learn and prove yourself for more complex projects.

You should still sign up, we believe that your experience and resulting competencies are much more important than the degree you are enrolled in, so that’s what will decide which projects we present to you. Furthermore, since professional firms have many different types of projects the experience you gained through a different degree may be just what is missing for a specific project.

CoStaff offers all its services to juniors for free. We only charge firms to use our services.

Signing up never hurts. If you indicate that you’re not sure when you’ll have time, we’ll contact you when a project fits your competencies so you can accept or decline it on the spot.

Let us tell you a secret: most professionals don’t stay in the same field for their whole careers, instead they use it as an opportunity to learn as much as possible and then found their own businesses, become executives at large corporates, or focus on NGOs and nonprofits. Joining CoStaff allows you to do the same as even a relatively short project will allow you to learn a lot. Plus, you may find that one of the professional fields you get to know through us is for you after all.

Our partner firms are always looking for promising juniors to hire full-time, so registering with us will allow them to get to know you through a short-term project before extending a full-time offer, or reach out to you directly without a previous project so that they can fasttrack you in their application process.

Working on professional projects offers two main benefits, for one you’ll be able to build up a systematic problem solving approach that will help you tackle challenges in any area you may encounter them in. Secondly, the wide range of business exposure to different projects provide allow quickly getting to know different industries and business functions. Furthermore, you’ll be able to further develop your teamwork, and communication skills.

As long as the project fulfills any duration requirements your university may have, it should count as an internship. In case anything is unclear to your university just get in contact with us we’ll be glad to help you settle any problems.

After being staffed

The exact payment terms will be part of the contract you set-up with our partner firms for Full projects when they choose you for a project or with CoStaff for Project tasks. Unless there are any special circumstances salaries are paid to staffed juniors on a monthly basis.

Since firms know that our candidates add value from the outset, paying a suitable salary to staffed juniors is an integral part of the contract we make with them. They thus know what your salary would be before selecting you, and will not negotiate on any related terms. In the case of project tasks, we have an even better idea of what you’re worth so everything is set 😉

Once you’ve been staffed on a project we have an even better idea of what you can deliver. Since we assume that you’ll have done great work it’ll be even more likely that you get staffed in the future.

Since we hope that you’ll do more than one project with us we suggest listing your job as “CoStaff junior professional” with each bullet representing the different facets of the projects you took part in through us. Of course you’re also welcome to list each project as a separate job with the clients being the partner firm you worked with in case you think that makes a bigger splash for your other applications.

Our partner firms are always looking for great talent to join them full-time so there’s a good chance that they’ll directly make you an offer after a project, or at least consider your application very favorably. Just let us know if you’d like to continue to work with one of our partners and we’ll initiate the application process for you.
